We are a social club of about 150 members who are residents of Pine Mountain Lake, Groveland, CA. We are focused on the health, safety and equitable use of our lake.
Our activities include social events at the marina, at Lake Lodge, and on the lake. We also contribute financially each year to improve members’ safety and enjoyment of lake activities. For example, in 2007 we planted trophy fish to challenge PML’s fishermen. In 2006, we acquired 20 sun umbrellas for use at the marina. For the last several years we have purchased, installed and maintained the solar lights on the buoys for safe traveling after dark. We also successfully urged PML to allocate budget funds to purchase a new lake maintenance boat and a weed eating machine. We have also made financial contributions to the Groveland EMT staff thanking them for their efforts to keep everyone safe.
We also advocate with PML administration for lake-centered activities such as controlling wakes, adding new swim buoys, and dredging.
The annual PML Boat Parade held on July 4th weekend and the August lake swim are also organized by Friends of the Lake.
Membership is open to any PML homeowner who cares about the health, safety and equitable use of our lake. Dues are $20 per year (family), or $10 single. Mail your check and your email address to Friends of the Lake, PO Box 591, Groveland, CA 95321.

The 4th of July boat parade, sponsored by Friends of the Lake, was great fun for participants and spectators alike! Over 30 boats participated with some of the most creative decorations ever.
In the pontoon category, the paddlewheeler PML Queen by the McKinley family was the winner. It was a tough category, with heavy competition from the Boat Club’s St. Patrick’s Day boat, the Duncans’ firecrackers, and the Van Burens’ and Fulmers’ Election Day boat, complete with a voting booth. Great job, everyone!
The ski/fishing category was won by Burke Nicholson and family with their “green” patriotic decorations. The Cardozas and Kuhns were close behind.
The non-motorized category was won by the Spillane family in their Thanksgiving turkey canoe. The kids rowed their hearts out around the lake too!
Special thanks to Dennis and Cynthia De Cant for helping to organize the boats into parade formation. Appreciation also to the hard-working judges, Friends of the Lake board members Bill and Virginia Bent and Gary and Kathy Oing.
Judge boats were provided by Friends of the Lake members Mike Gustafson and Catherine Santa Maria.

Friends of the Lake held a wonderful event on June 14. Organized by Dick and Lois Rosenbaum, almost 80 members and friends convened at the marina for a delicious potluck dinner followed by our annual poker run on the lake.
After dinner, we divided onto boats driven by Bruce Rossio, Ed Peters, Allen Craig, Randy Burke, Catherine Santa Maria, John Olson, Bobby Sherman, Steve Boiani and Jim Goodrich. We thank these generous boat owners for providing our transportation. We traveled to four homes around the lake, collected a playing card at each one and returned to the marina to collect the fifth card and play the hands. Along the way, we spent a lovely hour cruising our beautiful lake.
Back at the marina, Barbara Davis was the big winner. Bob Mayrend was second, Bruce Rossio third, Jane Reynolds fourth and Priscilla Park fifth. In all, 14 players won prizes. Alan Kaylor, visiting his family in PML from Toledo, Oregon won the “lowest hand” prize.
Many, many thanks to event organizers Dick and Lois Rosenbaum. This event runs smoother and is more fun every year!
We held our Friends of the Lake annual “Music at the Marina” on July 12. Our favorite folk singers, Chris Miller and Richard Sholer from Jamestown, provided the musical entertainment and “Margarita Mike” provided the free libations.
On August 9th we sponosr the lake swim and race from Dunn Court to the Marina Beach. Registration begins at 3:30pm at Dunn Court.
Membership in Friends of the Lake is open to anyone who enjoys our beautiful lake and wishes to support its health, safety and equitable use. To join Friends of the Lake, please mail a check for $20/family, $10/single to Friends of the Lake, PO Box 591, Groveland. Be sure to include your email address.
Dredging of portions of Pine Mountain Lake is scheduled to begin next year. This is an essential part of lake maintenance and must be performed to remove silt that has built up over the years. The Association is working with various state and local agencies to acquire the appropriate permits.
The Friends of the Lake web site is being redesigned for easier maintenance. For now, both the original site and new site are online.
